What is xxnxx SanDisk Professional 12TB G-DRIVE PRO - Enterprise-Class Desktop Hard Drive; Thunderbolt 3; USB-C 7200RPM Ultrastar Drive Inside - SDPH51J-012T-NBAAD to grandma?

This is a xxnxx nice drive, xxnxx but I did have to reformat it -- xxnxx no big deal. One thing I xxnxx really appreciated, are the inputs which allow daisy chaining xxnxx other drives xxnxx with thunderbolt 3. xxnxx These drives have gotten so much less expensive than when I bought a 12 T Raid drive. That xxnxx old one died xxnxx on me before I could move all my data. xxnxx Not going to let that happen again.Dual Thunderbolt xxnxx 3 (20Gbps) ports and a single USB-C (5Gbps) portThe description states xxnxx it is configured for xxnxx Mac OS use, but can easily be reconfigured xxnxx for PC use. It is not that xxnxx easy xxnxx to reconfigure xxnxx and SanDisk does not xxnxx provide a detailed procedure. Reconfiguration xxnxx requires more than a few keystrokes.I've been xxnxx buying G-technology (now SanDisk Pro) drives for xxnxx more than a decade. When friends xxnxx ask about external drives xxnxx for video playback, xxnxx photo storage, serious back-up, xxnxx these are the drives I xxnxx point xxnxx them to first. I've never had one fail xxnxx (ymmv), all of the drives I've ever purchased are xxnxx still in operation by xxnxx myself or a xxnxx family member. The xxnxx only reason I even buy xxnxx new drives is I keep xxnxx filling them xxnxx up. xxnxx The xxnxx speed and stability is extremely reliable. I've never xxnxx found the drive noise to be a problem, but if you need xxnxx to do audio recording xxnxx you xxnxx will encounter read/write xxnxx clicks, so placement is important. The only reason I don't give these a higher xxnxx portability xxnxx rating is because they xxnxx are not bus xxnxx powered (I xxnxx would not expect them xxnxx to be). If you do want to move these around xxnxx our travel with them xxnxx you will have to deal with the cabling, and if you do xxnxx need xxnxx to transport drives lots you should be familiar with xxnxx proper xxnxx care to avoid xxnxx damaging the drive mechanism xxnxx (these days, xxnxx I'd drop the money on fast xxnxx SSDs for travel). If you need speed and reliability, these are always a xxnxx safe bet.5-Year xxnxx limited xxnxx warrantyWorks good nice and fastReady to xxnxx go xxnxx with Mac (HFS+). Works with xxnxx Windows via xxnxx reformat.Daisy chaining for up to 5 additional devicesEven though the xxnxx interface is xxnxx USB-C, the actual date transfer speed is quite slow. xxnxx I xxnxx am only getting 125Mbs.Always xxnxx will buy this drive first.I have several xxnxx variations of this drive. They have all worked xxnxx flawlessly. All of my xxnxx other drives have xxnxx metal feet that let xxnxx them xxnxx stack xxnxx with xxnxx air xxnxx circulation. xxnxx These new ones (since G-Tech was bought out) are the xxnxx same look but lack the feet and xxnxx have plastic shells. A 7200 RPM drive puts xxnxx out a LOT of heat so give them plenty of air circulation. I keep xxnxx a fan on xxnxx mine xxnxx in warm xxnxx weather.Enterprise-class 7200RPM Ultrastar drive insidePowerful performance with xxnxx up xxnxx to 230MB/s xxnxx read and 230MB/s write xxnxx (1 MB/s = 1 million bytes per second. Based on internal xxnxx testing; xxnxx performance may vary depending upon host xxnxx device, usage xxnxx conditions, drive capacity, and other factors.)Storage capacity xxnxx and the small size is perfect.

Buyer's experience:

1: This is a nice drive, but I did have to reformat it -- no big deal. One thing I really appreciated, are the inputs which allow daisy chaining other drives with thunderbolt 3. These drives have gotten so much less expensive than when I bought a 12 T Raid drive. That old one died on me before I could move all my data. Not going to let that happen again.

3: I have several variations of this drive. They have all worked flawlessly. All of my other drives have metal feet that let them stack with air circulation. These new ones (since G-Tech was bought out) are the same look but lack the feet and have plastic shells. A 7200 RPM drive puts out a LOT of heat so give them plenty of air circulation. I keep a fan on mine in warm weather.

4: Storage capacity and the small size is perfect.

5: The description states it is configured for Mac OS use, but can easily be reconfigured for PC use. It is not that easy to reconfigure and SanDisk does not provide a detailed procedure. Reconfiguration requires more than a few keystrokes.

6: Works good nice and fast

7: Always will buy this drive first.
